Mortality by longitudinal phenotypes on Day 0. A 28-day mortality stratified by phenotype assignment on Day 0 in CDIC. After adjusting for age, gender and BMI, compared with Class 1, the adjusted hazard ratio of 28-day mortality for Class 2 and Class 3 were 1.86 (95% CI 1.33–2.62), 2.48 (95% CI 1.81–3.41), respectively. B–E 60-day mortality stratified by phenotype assignment on Day 0 in ARDSNet Trials. In ALVEOLI trial, compared with Class 1, the adjusted hazard ratio of 60-day mortality for Class 2 and Class 3 were 2.58 (95% CI 1.61–5.12), 2.56 (95% CI 1.76–3.72), respectively. In FACTT trial, compared with Class 1, the adjusted hazard ratio of 60-day mortality for Class 2 and Class 3 were 2.72 (95% CI 2.05–3.61), 3.02 (95% CI 2.07–4.40), respectively. In EDEN trial, compared with Class 1, the adjusted hazard ratio of 60-day mortality for Class 2 and Class 3 were 1.83 (95% CI 1.26–2.64), 1.53 (95% CI 1.13–2.07), respectively. In SAILS trial, compared with Class 1, the adjusted hazard ratio of 60-day mortality for Class 2 and Class 3 were 1.29 (95% CI 0.92–1.81), 2.09 (95% CI 1.43–3.04), respectively
