  2. *Multivariable logistic regression analyses using a backward variable selection procedure based on the Akaike information criterion (AIC). According to AIC analyses, the following variables were removed from the models: Chronic lung disease, Pulmonary origin, ARDS severity, PIP at ECMO initiation, and Pplateau at ECMO initiation. Internal validation demonstrated an excellent discrimination for model 1 c = 0.89 [95% CI, 0.85–0.93] and model 2 c = 0.90 [95% CI, 0.86–0.93]
