  1. Sepsis was evaluated on admission and included sepsis, severe sepsis and septic shock. Diabetes, cardiovascular disease and hypertension were comorbidities as recorded on admission. Use of diuretics (Y/N) at ICU admission was not statistically significant and intentionally excluded in order to avoid the risk of oversimplification
