At a baseline IAV of 4 l, the same 2 l increase in IAV will only lead to a small increase in IAP (5 mmHg) in a patient with good abdominal compliance versus a high increase in IAP (15 mmHg) in the case of a stiff abdominal wall and diaphragm.
