A very comprehensive review of the epidemiology, risk factors, pathogenesis and management of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)-induced gastric injury.
An important topic for all hospital clinicians since the mortality rate of in-patients suffering from a gastrointestinal bleed as a result of NSAIDs is 5-10%.
Recommendations are discussed for the prevention and treatment of NSAID-induced gastric injury and it is noted that proton pump inhibitors appear to play a prominent role.
