Selenium, glutathione peroxidase (GPX), and zinc plasma concentrations in trauma and cardiac surgery patients. The thick vertical bar next to the y-axis shows the reference ranges. By two-factor repeated measures analysis of variance, the changes over time and the treatment effect (interaction time*group) were strongest in the cardiac group, with P < 0.0001 for the three variables, while in the trauma group, treatment effect was selenium P < 0.0001, GPX P = 0.0013, and zinc P = 0.0005.
