Of the 318 enrolled patients with severe sepsis, 90 were identified as patients with invasive fungal infection (IFI), 60 of whom were 1:1 matched to control patients with severe sepsis but without IFI for unit, sex, age (± 10 years) and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II score (± 3 points).
