Effect of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-receptor modulators on vascular damage after high-tidal-volume ventilation. Rats were anesthetized and injected with Evans Blue (EB) dye (20 mg/kg. BW) with and without the instillation of GABA (500 μM) and/or bicuculline (200 μM). The animals were ventilated first with a tidal volume of 8 ml/kg BW for 30 minutes. Later the tidal volume was increased to 40 ml/kg BW, and they were ventilated for 60 minutes. At the end of ventilation, the lungs were analyzed for EB-dye extravasation.
