Timeline of hospitalization and SARS-CoV-2 detection. Patients were admitted to the ICU directly or were first hospitalized and went to on to require ICU admission due to the development of severe respiratory failure. Most patients were admitted to the UMCG from a referral hospital. Oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swabs and sputum from patients were regularly tested for SARS-CoV-2 virus detection by rRT-PCR during their ICU stay. The presence of SARS-CoV-2 in postmortem lung and kidney biopsies was also determined by rRT-PCR. The cycle threshold (Ct) values are included, N = negative
