The SEP-1 score represents the percent of patients with sepsis sampled from each hospital that received all components of the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services “Early Management Bundle for Severe Sepsis/Septic Shock” (SEP-1) inpatient quality measure. For this figure, hospital scores were summarized as the mean hospital score for each state. Mapping was performed using the leaflet package for R (Version 2.0.1) with the Esri World Gray Canvas basemap (Esri, Delorme, NAVTEQ)
