  1. Baseline demographic data for patients randomized to each arm of the SLEAP study. There were no significant differences between the two groups. Pre ICU conditions: neurological condition defined as stroke, seizure disorder, dementia, neuromuscular disease, Parkinson’s disease, or other neurological condition; psychiatric condition includes depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety disorder, or other psychiatric condition; respiratory disease defined as home oxygen, CO2 retention at baseline, or home ventilation; renal dysfunction defined as chronic renal failure with creatinine >180 umol/L, or chronic dialysis; habitual drug use other than tobacco or alcohol; liver disease defined as Child Pugh grade C or known esophageal varices.
