This figure displays and compares Pimax/PdiTw ratios for the patients in our study who were maximally triggering ventilator breaths (i.e., patients that triggered all mechanical ventilator breaths at the time of assessment, red bar) against the Pimax/PdiTw ratios for patients who only partially initiated breaths, with some or all breaths initiated by the mechanical ventilator in the absence of patient effort (black bar). The Pimax/PdiTw ratio was significantly higher for patients who triggered all breaths than for patients with submaximal triggering (p = 0.044, *indicates a significant difference from the other group).
