Hemopexin concentrations were measured in the cord blood of 149 infants at different gestational ages shown (23 to 25 weeks, n = 11; 26 to 28 weeks, n = 16; 29 to 31 weeks, n = 19; 32 to 34 week, n = 19; 35 to 37 weeks, n = 42; >38 W, older than 38 weeks, n = 42). Dotted line represents the mean human hemopexin (hHx) concentration in healthy adult donors (800 μg/ml). Data were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis test and Dunn’s test was done for paired comparisons. Horizontal lines represent means. P <0.0001, infants >38 W vs. each group of infants at different gestational ages <38 W.
