Methylglyoxal-detoxifying capacity in different inflammatory settings in humans. Glyoxalase-1 (GLO-1) expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of patients with septic shock compared with healthy volunteers is shown. Samples from 11 patients with septic shock—at onset (S/T0) and 24 hours (S/T1) later—and 11 healthy volunteers (V/T0) were analyzed by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction.
