Impact of primary diagnosis on serum RBP4 concentrations at admission to the medical intensive care unit (ICU). (a) Among critically ill patients, serum RBP4 levels do not differ between patients with sepsis of pulmonary origin as compared to sepsis of nonpulmonary (non-pulmo.) origin. Lowest RBP4 levels are found in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis. P values (Mann-Whitney U test) are given in the figure. (b) No significant differences are detected for C-reactive protein (CRP) concentrations in ICU patients with either sepsis of pulmonary or nonpulmonary origin, but both sepsis groups show higher values than the nonsepsis groups.
