Integration of proximal convoluted tubule chloride transport mechanisms with strong ion difference and partial pressure. Chloride is reabsorbed from passive paracellular transport, conductance and active coupled transport at both apical and basolateral membranes. The strong ion difference (SID) in the plasma, together with the partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PCO2), regulates these transport activities and determines the hydrogen ion concentration.
