(A) Serum ghrelin concentrations are elevated in non-sepsis ICU patients with renal failure, as demonstrated by a correlation with serum creatinine and an inverse correlation with the glomerular filtration rate (GFR, calculated using serum cystatin C measurements). (B, C) Markers of carbohydrate metabolism, such as glucose and insulin, are inversely correlated with serum ghrelin concentrations in non-sepsis ICU patients. Spearman rank correlation test, correlation coefficient r and P-values are given.
