Graph of group averaged evoked potential amplitudes and evoked flow velocity responses to illustrate the temporal aspects of neurovascular dysfunction. With lipopolysaccharide (LPS) application it comes first to a disproportional high decline in evoked laser-Doppler responses in both LPS dose groups (arrow 1) before somatosensory evoked potential amplitudes declined (arrow 2). This constellation indicates early microcirculatory failure in the septic brain. Whereas norepinephrine (NE) did not modify the drop in hemodynamic responses (arrow 1) it was protective on the evoked potential amplitudes (absent (1 mg/kg) or diminished (5 mg/kg) component of arrow 2).
