This is expressed as (EELVGE – EELVCT SCAN)/EELVCT SCAN as a function of the ratio between tidal volume and the end expiratory lung volume (EELV) measured by computed tomography (CT) scan ((EELVGE - EELVCT SCAN)/EELVCT SCAN = 0.05 + 0.43 × (Tidal Volume/EELVCT SCAN, r2 = 0.58, p < 0.0001).
