Schematic presentation of the experimental design used. At fourpositions (Pos. 1 to Pos. 4) along the inspiratory limb of the respiratorytubing, NO and NO2 concentrations were measured by means ofchemiluminescence (CLD 700 AL chemiluminometer). The upper part of the figuredemonstrates the measurement design without a humidification system. In thelower part the site of the active humidification system is indicated betweenPos. 1 and Pos. 2.
