- In the peripheral blood samples (n = 33) the monocytes and lymphocytes were significantly reduced after surgery, whereas the neutrophils were significantly elevated. The findings in the bronchiolar lavage samples (n = 33) were different. The trend was similar to the blood samples but only the percentage of macrophages was significantly reduced after surgery.
