Carbon dioxide production during administration of hydrogen sulfide (H ₂ S). Total carbon dioxide production (${\dot{\text{V}}\text{CO}}_{\text{2}}$) in five sheep challenged with alternate exposure to H₂S by ventilation of an extracorporeal membrane lung with 0 or 100 ppm H₂S in air, 200 ppm H₂S in air and 300 ppm H₂S in air for 1-hour intervals each. Values are derived from the last 10 minutes of each period of exposure to air or H₂S and are presented as means ± standard error of the mean. ppm, parts per million; n.s. = P > 0.05.
